"Domestic," in this case, means locally-founded cloistered communities who do not have "name recognition" like the established orders (e.g., Carmelites, Poor Clares, etc.). With perhaps one exception, these congregations have likely not made foundations outside of their home diocese.

We prefer the word "domestic," rather than "indigenous," out of respect for aboriginal peoples.
