In sight of the green rolling hills of the South Downs, on the edge of a small English town, in 200 acres of beautiful parkland
and woodland, the Sisters of St Augustine of the Mercy of Jesus continue their lives of prayer and service, which started
150 years ago.
Through the wise and gentle Rule of St Augustine, the Sisters enjoy a warm and happy community life together.
The community maintains a strong prayer life with daily Mass, Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, private prayer and meditation.
There is also a Holy Hour with exposition twice a week.
The Sisters' work of service primarily consists of nursing care, domiciliary care, pastoral care, and parish work. The
community provides care for the sick through their nursing homes and the support of the elderly in the Retirement Village
in Sussex. The sisters are also involved in parish work in the local area, in Westminster Cathedral (London) and Birmingham.
In their free time, the sisters enjoy walking, reading, games, handicrafts, and sensible use of the television. The sisters
are not enclosed, so they can travel to explore and enjoy the local area.
The Sisters wear the religious veil as a sign of their consecration, in keeping with the vow of poverty and as a visible
witness to the world.
