Welcome!

***A Proposed Charism that will begin as Congregational Recluses in the CAMM/CCMM Social Division.***

For the pillars of the earth are the Lord's
And He has set the world upon them.
1 Samuel

In the spirit of St. Simeon Stylites, who had lived atop a column, this community of hermits will live in apartment towers.  Through the power of prayer, these hermits will shed light upon our very dark world.

What merits more prayer than a large city?

We would advise, however, not to take apartments below the second floor, or above the tenth.

The first would be for technical reasons--how can one be a Tower Hermit if they lived on the ground floor?  The only exception we can think of would be a seriously disabled person who needed a ground floor apartment.

The second is for safety reasons--fire department ladders and buckets usually go no higher than the tenth floor.

The Tower Hermits will follow the Rule of St. Columba.  These hermits should live so simply that even the most destitute would have no reason to envy them.

Habit and levels of formation:

Nova: all white.  For the men, this will be white slacks, shirt, & shoes.  For the women, white skirt, blouse, shoes, light-weight veil.  Miraculous Medal is also worn.

Postulant: all black.  For the men, black slacks, shirt, and shoes.  For the women, black skirt, blouse, shoes, capelet, and heavier veil.  Miraculous Medal retained.

Novices: back to all white, only in habit form.

Temporary Profession: sapphire blue habit with darker blue capelet and veil for the women; blue hooded capelet for the men.

Final Profession: receives the silver profession crucifix.

The community will be Ecclesia Dei Traditionalist, using the 1962 Missal.  All prayers will be in Latin, also.   If there are a number of hermits in a particular location, we would encourage them to meet for weekly Mass and a common Sunday luncheon and recreation.
