Carmel for Delayed Vocations

Welcome graphic

***As of April 16, 2015, this Carmelite project has been suspended until further notice. Older discerners are encouraged to make use of the new list of Carmels accepting older vocations. The OCD Father General prefers existing Carmels accept these older vocations.***

In response to discerner needs, the Cloister Outreach Affiliate New Foundations (CONF) proposes a "Betty Carmel" specifically for delayed vocations (over age 30).
This initiative will likely constitute a new branch of the Discalced Carmelite family.
Please see the Foundational Update page for more details.
The group cannot accept those who are completely disabled.

Those attracted to a Carmel for delayed vocations are encouraged to join this yahoo group:
A second yahoo group has been started for the sake of the aspirants getting to know each other and making plans for eventually living the Carmelite life together.

The Carmel of the Divine Will & the Mother of Sorrows will look like any other Carmel in respect to spirituality; habit; and religious practices.  The distinguishing features of this Carmel will be the age restriction; physical interventions; and formation program.
Religious communities specifically for older vocations are colloquially known as "Betty Orders," and have shorter formation programs and constitutions suited to the needs of older women.
Please note that the length of these formation programs are based on canon law and consist of the one year canonical novitiate and three years (or longer) of temporary vows.
